THE ROSS BUILDING
Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Ross Building
This is a picture of the Ross Building in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, which is being restored by my cousin, Rick Jorgensen. When I visited Rick in late January, 2004, the building was entirely gutted and elevator equipment had been delivered for installation.

ROSS, THE CAT

Ross, the cat
As we inspected the building on that day in January, 2004, we heard a cat crying (or meowing). We followed the meowing to a yellow cat (above) and we all felt that the cat should not be left in the building, but that notices should be put out in the neighborhood about his rescue. Rick's wife, Olga, bundled the cat up and took it home where many other cats already were happily living. Unfortunately, it was later learned that the cat had feline leukemia. Despite the fact that feline leukemia is an untreatable and fatal disease, they have kept the cat (separated from their other cats) and named it appropriately, Ross. As of Thanksgiving of 2004, Ross was still alive and living with my cousin and his wife.
